Petty and his crew bung a live disc onto 2010’s foray into the blues... and the Mojo tunes sparkle on stage.

Perhaps it’s down to their monolithic status and age, but it’s taken two whole years for Petty and his razor-sharp Heartbreakers to tour their expedition into the blues, Mojo, in Europe.

Following two sold-out dates at the Royal Albert Hall and headlining the Isle Of Wight Festival, the icons have slipped out this version, packing a live disc of 12 cuts from their 2010 North American tour - except the exciting, sloping-to-explosive Sweet William from 2008.

The latest additions to their live canon all sparkle on the bonus disc; there’s a rip-snorting version of album opener Jefferson Jericho Blues, which benefits from the gutsy edge of live harmonica, and the predatory blues of Takin’ My Time is sizzlingly sinister.

The noodling First Flash Of Freedom and album closer Good Enough remain indulgently prog-ish on-stage, while hits including a rousing Refugee and an underwhelming rendition of I Won’t Back Down fill out a mixed bag.
