Gareth Bale is hoping that Spurs can make a winning start next season, unlike the last campaign where they lost their opening two games against Manchester United and Manchester City
Tottenham star Gareth Bale is relishing Spurs’ trip to Newcastle on the opening day of the 2012/13 season.
The north Londoners will have a new manager for the opening day, after the dismissal of Harry Redknapp, as they look to improve on last season’s fourth place finish.
“It’s important to get off to a good start,” he told the club’s official website.
“It will be difficult, especially away from home, but it’s a good early test for us.”
Tottenham only finished four points above the Magpies last year and Bale paid tribute to Alan Pardew’s side.
“Newcastle had a fine season,” the Wales international added.
“No-one really expected them to be right up there and maintain it throughout the season.
“They all worked hard, they worked together and that counts a lot in football.
“They’ve some great players and it will be a case of keeping those players quiet and trying to impose our game plan.”
