Transfer news: Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas says Luka Modric is a ‘great player’
Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas thinks Tottenham’s Luka Modric would fit in well at the Spanish champions.
The Croatia international, who is also wanted by Manchester United, is reportedly keen to join Madrid.
But with three years remaining on his contract at White Hart Lane, Spurs are reluctant to sell the 26-year-old for less than their £35million valuation.
“I know him,” Spain goalkeeper Casillas told AS. “He has been a great player ever since he signed for Tottenham. I faced him in the Euros and he had a very good season.
“If the manager thinks he ought to be then I am sure he will be at the level of this squad. It is not our responsibility to say anything more.
“The club and the manager are those that decide what is best for the team to move a step forward.”
Andre Villas-Boas thinks Tottenham may have succeeded in their final day push for Champions League football had referee Andre Marriner awarded Gareth Bale a penalty - rather than book him for diving.
