Glenn Hoddle believes Andre Villas-Boas will be under pressure if he is appointed by Tottenham
Former Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle has expressed his surprise that Chelsea flop Andre Villas-Boas looks set to take over at Tottenham.
The Portuguese boss endured a disastrous reign as the Blues boss and was sacked after less than nine months after in charge.
“It was a big call from Daniel Levy to let Harry Redknapp go,” Hoddle told talkSPORT. “And it’s an even bigger call to bring in Andre Villas-Boas.
“It’s a real crossroads. Tottenham didn’t need to be in this position. They should have been moving forward, keeping the players they’ve got, brining in some new ones and improving the stadium.
“Whoever gets the job has a massive task to take them on. I’m surprised Redknapp’s gone and I’m surprised Villas-Boas is taking over.
“He’ll be under pressure because of what happened at Chelsea.”
Andre Villas-Boas thinks Tottenham may have succeeded in their final day push for Champions League football had referee Andre Marriner awarded Gareth Bale a penalty - rather than book him for diving.
