Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has launched an angry attack at Fabien Barthez after the former Manchester United keeper said he couldn’t understand why Hugo Lloris hadn’t been made Spurs’ number one.
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas decided to stick with Friedel for last Sunday’s win against Reading despite signing Lloris from Lyon on transfer deadline day.
Lloris made an impressive debut in for Spurs in their 0-0 draw with Lazio last night, but only after Barthez had claimed Villas-Boas decision to keep pick Friedel was “incomprehensible”.
41-year-old Friedel took offence to the comments and responded on Twitter today.
He wrote: “Just saw barthez comments. I normally don’t comment on such c**p but when disrespected by someone I don’t respect I must.
“Barthez was ignorant, disrespectful and out of order to mention my name.”
Andre Villas-Boas thinks Tottenham may have succeeded in their final day push for Champions League football had referee Andre Marriner awarded Gareth Bale a penalty - rather than book him for diving.
