Jan Vertonghen is delighted that his fellow Belgian Nacer Chadli is now showing his best form for Tottenham.

Chadli was the cheapest of Spurs’ seven summer signings in 2013, arriving from FC Twente for £7million – and although the 25-year-old struggled to make an impact last season, he now appears to have found his feet.

Having played a key role and scored the fifth goal in last week’s 5-3 home win over Chelsea, Chadli was also on target in the 1-1 draw at Burnley on Monday, taking his tally to nine goals for the season.

Vertonghen told Spurs TV: “He’s a great player. Last year he had some injuries, he had some hamstring issues, and I think he worked hard during the summer to come back fit.

“He’s an unbelievable player. I was so glad when he signed eventually because it took a while. But he’s a top player and I think his game against Chelsea was one of the best I’ve seen from him – and I’ve played [quite a few] games with him.

“I’m happy he can show the supporters and everyone else in Europe what he is capable of. I’m a big fan of his qualities.”

Chadli’s opening goal was cancelled out in Monday’s third-round FA Cup tie at Burnley, setting up a replay at White Hart Lane.

Vertonghen said: “The important thing is to go through and that’s what we want to do next week. It’s a shame we couldn’t do it [at the first attempt] and it’s another midweek game but it’s important we stay in the flow. We haven’t lost for a while now so hopefully we can keep it going.”
