Mauricio Pochettino has warned Tottenham to watch out for QPR’s frontmen Charlie Austin and Bobby Zamora in tomorrow’s London derby at Loftus Road.

Austin has scored 15 goals in 25 games for struggling Rangers, aided by former Spurs forward Zamora.

And, although Chris Ramsey’s Rs are lying in the relegation zone ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash, Pochettino is not taking anything for granted. “We expect a very tough game,” he said. “QPR are a strong team, they are playing at home and it will be a very difficult game. It’s a local derby and the three points will be important for them and for us.

“Charlie Austin is a very good player, he has scored a lot of goals. We need to focus on him and Zamora, who is another good player.”

Austin is the only Englishman to score more league goals than Harry Kane this season and, asked whether the pair could line up together for England in the future, Pochettino said: “In football you never know. Why not? Charlie Austin is a very good player, and so is Harry Kane.”

Pochettino and his assistant Jesus Perez were at White Hart Lane last night to watch Spurs’ Under-18s beat Chelsea 2-0 in the first leg of the FA Youth Cup semi-final.

Tottenham’s head coach was impressed with what he saw from the Lilywhites’ next generation – and he believes QPR’s new manager Ramsey and director of football Les Ferdinand, who were previously involved in Spurs’ academy, will be looking to develop young talent in west London as well.

“We share with Chris the same philosophy,” said Pochettino. “Les Ferdinand believes in the young players, the same as us. Yesterday was a great opportunity to see our young talents play a big team like Chelsea on TV. Maybe these players have the possibility to play in the first team. There were good performances - there are many, many talents in the academy.”
