Nacer Chadli says Dele Alli’s wonder strike at Crystal Palace is the best goal he has ever seen from a team-mate while he has been on the pitch.

Alli stunned Selhurst Park with the 84th-minute volley that crucially put Spurs 2-1 up against their London rivals on Saturday.

The 19-year-old controlled Christian Eriksen’s cushioned header before the ball touched the ground, chipped it over Mile Jedinak’s head and spun before firing into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

Asked if he has ever seen a better goal while he has been on the pitch, Chadli said: “Not really. From a team-mate, it was unbelievable, I think I never saw this [before].

“Erik Lamela’s rabona? I wasn’t on the pitch for that but yes, the rabona was beautiful. They’re both unbelievable goals. Dele’s goal was fantastic, it was a nice volley, it was unbelievable to see.

“Dele does that in training – volleys. He is always scoring nice goals. He always gets in good positions in training so you can see it in the game also. It’s not lucky.

“I’m very impressed because it seems like he has a lot of experience and he’s very young. He has a lot of potential and if he works hard he’s going to be a great player.

“He’s very skilful and he’s got everything in his locker. He’s a very nice lad too, always smiling. I have a very good relationship with him and he’s a very good guy.

“I think the way he’s playing this season he’s going to be picked [for England in the summer] and then it’s up to him to show his quality in the Premier League and then he can do it at the European Championship.”

Alli’s goal took some of the focus away from Chadli’s impact as a substitute in Saturday’s London derby.

The Belgian, who missed almost two months with an ankle injury between October and December, was introduced shortly before the hour-mark when Tottenham were trailing 1-0 and promptly set up Harry Kane’s equaliser before scoring himself with a curling 25-yard strike late on, making it 3-1.

On any other day that would probably have been the best goal of the game, and it followed Chadli’s strike in last Wednesday’s FA Cup replay at Leicester, giving him two goals in his last two games.

“It was a long injury,” he said. “I had to get back to fitness and to feel nothing from the injury is hard, it’s a long way. But I’m getting there and it’s very nice.

“I think we have a lot of good players in the team. I’m just doing my job and I hope I can get time to show my skills.”

Tottenham’s victory on Saturday consolidated their place in the top four, taking them five points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United – who lost at home to Southampton – and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are only two points behind second-placed Manchester City and third-placed Arsenal.

“It’s a big win,” said Chadli. “It’s not easy to win at Crystal Palace so for us it was a big game and we did very well. I’m very pleased with the team and everybody is very happy.”
