Male fans of beach volleyball will be delighted by news that the Team GB girls are happy sporting their revealing bikinis at London 2012, regardless of the chilly weather.
Team GB pair Zara Dampney and Shauna Mullin have eased the concerns of distraught volleyball aficionados who thought new dress code rules could deny them the sight of sun-kissed athletes parading in bikinis.
Dampney, 26, from Dorset, and Johannesburg-born Mullin, 27, think fans will enjoy the sport for what it is, but appreciate the attraction of their outfits for their male fans, and say they are happy with whatever they wear.
“We are used to playing in our bikinis and I’m used to training and playing in my warm weather gear,” said Dampney. “They are both really comfortable and it doesn’t really affect my game either way.
“We are jumping around, diving and we have to perform the skills to a high level, so physically it is a really tough game and it’s really demanding,’ she continued.
“Beach volleyball is a glamarous sport,” added Mullin.
“Obviously a lot of people come along for the bikinis,” she continued. “But they do leave with a better understanding of the sport and how exciting it is,
“I think they really get captivated by what we do.”
The duo will become Team GB’s first representatives in beach volleyball since 1996 at London 2012, where they are targeting a top 10 finish.
Andre Villas-Boas thinks Tottenham may have succeeded in their final day push for Champions League football had referee Andre Marriner awarded Gareth Bale a penalty - rather than book him for diving.
