Sven Goran Eriksson would have selected David Beckham over Craig Bellamy, Micah Richards and Ryan Giggs to represent Team GB at London 2012
Former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson would have picked David Beckham if he had been choosing Team GB’s London 2012 squad.
Manager Stuart Pearce selected Liverpool’s Craig Bellamy, Manchester City’s Micah Richards and Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs as his three players who are over the age of 23.
“I would have picked him, put him on the bench at the very least,” Eriksson told the BBC.
“He is an icon, he should be involved in the Olympic Games in some way.”
The Swede hopes that the LA Galaxy midfielder is still a part of the London 2012 Olympic games.
“I hope he will be involved in some way in the Olympic Games, it’s important,” Eriksson added.
“It is the Olympic Games, it is Great Britain, it is England, it is London.”
Andre Villas-Boas thinks Tottenham may have succeeded in their final day push for Champions League football had referee Andre Marriner awarded Gareth Bale a penalty - rather than book him for diving.
