GB trio Laura Trott, Dani King and Joanna Rowsell set a world record as they easily secured their place in the first round of the women’s 3,000m team pursuit at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
It was a fantastic Olympic debut for Hertfordshire’s Trott, who began cycling at Welwyn Garden City’s Gosling Sports Park aged eight.
The trio, who are world champions, clocked a world record time of 3mins 15.699secs this afternoon (Friday) in heat 10 to cement their place in the next stage of the competition.
The women’s team pursuit first round (4.11pm) and final (5.42pm) take place tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon with the GB trio gold medal favourites.
Trott, a life member of Welwyn Wheelers Cycling Club, is also scheduled to also compete in the omnium on Monday and Tuesday.
Andre Villas-Boas thinks Tottenham may have succeeded in their final day push for Champions League football had referee Andre Marriner awarded Gareth Bale a penalty - rather than book him for diving.
