Kent bowler Mark Davies believes that his side must win their final two games to have any chance of reaching the quarter finals in the Friends Life T20.

The Spitfires, currently fourth, will play the Essex Eagles at Canterbury tonight, knowing that will lift them above their rivals in the race for one of the two third-placed wildcard spots.

“We obviously need to win the next two really to stand any chance of going through in the competition,” Davies told London24.

“Essex are a tough team but it will be a good crowd at our place so who knows.”

The Canterbury based side then travel to Uxbridge to face the Middlesex Panthers on Sunday, who will be scrapping to avoid picking up the wooden spoon after a horrible campaign.

Davies added: “Middlesex can go either way really; they can either come and have a day out or they can throw everything at you and you could be on a hiding to nothing.

“But if you can get them under the pump early doors and hit the ground we’ll end up with a good result.”

The former Durham player was, understandably, keen to celebrate last night’s 48 run victory over Surrey last night.

“It was a great win for the lads on the back of three disappointing losses [to Middlesex, Hampshire and Sussex],” he said.

“Coming here it always a tough place to come and play.”

Surrey are still in morning after the death of Tom Maynard last month and Davies admitted the tragic incident played on their minds at the Kia Oval last night.

“Yes it played on our minds. It is not an easy time for Surrey cricket or cricket in general.”

“The lads are all aware of what is going on so it is a tough time to play them.”

“The bowling is one area we have said that we needed to improve on.”

Last season, Davies feared his would have to throw in the towel on a career which had promised so much due to his injury problems.

“I am over the moon to be back playing,” he exclaimed.

“At the end of last season I thought my career was over so to be back playing in front of big crowd on television is a joy to be fair. I am chuffed with it.”
