“Try to imagine the crowd chanting and singing all night (getting louder as the beer flows!), Graham Napier trying to hit the roof launching several 6’s as well as my early mentioned awesome chap and Eagle T20 new recruit Jimmy Franklin being all-round brilliant every T20 night without ever having to worry about the rain, starring at the skies and frantically checking every weather website on your phone!”

With Essex bowlers ripping through Glamorgan’s batting line-up leaving the Welsh Dragons 99-5 the umpires called time and the match was over, only one thing had stopped Essex from winning…the rain.

With the continuous May downpours unrelenting 4-Day County Championship games are being reduced to 3-day games maximum and teams are having to get clever and focus on taking maximum batting points or maximum bowling points instead of the win.

Essex genuinely sensed a win in the Glamorgan game, after Alviro Petersen’s maiden Essex ton (and his highest even County Championship score of 144) and some great bowling from Tymal Mills had opened an opportunity but they fell just short.

This does open up a new stream of ingenious cricket pondering…could there be an introduction of indoor cricket?

Of course Test/4 Day cricket would struggle indoors with the elements playing a large role but could Limited Overs and T20 cricket work under a roof?

A lot of counties teams rely on the revenue generating by large crowds and those large crowds occur on the occasional Limited Overs games but predominately on the T20 nights.

Thinking of the amazing atmosphere generating by the epic Essex fans on T20 nights, for it to sometimes be, literally, dampened when the heavens open. T20 cricket should be played under a roof; Essex weekday nights would be amazing.

Try to imagine the crowd chanting and singing all night (getting louder as the beer flows!), Graham Napier trying to hit the roof launching several 6’s as well as my early mentioned awesome chap and Eagle T20 new recruit Jimmy Franklin being all-round brilliant every T20 night without ever having to worry about the rain, starring at the skies and frantically checking every weather website on your phone!

Now I’ve come up with this frantically brilliant idea the weather will turn Sahara-esque during the T20’s without any rain…but still it’s worth thinking about! I keep my eye on my phone for that call from the ECB any day now…
