Chris Tremlett believes Surrey have nothing to lose against Sussex in their final FriendsLife T20 game this season

Surrey and England fast bowler Chris Tremlett insists his side have nothing to lose when they face Sussex in their final FriendsLife T20 game of the year.

The south Londoners are already out of the tournament after losing seven games in a row, leaving them bottom of the South Group.

Only a big win over the Sharks, coupled with a heavy defeat for Middlesex against Kent, will prevent Surrey picking up the wooden spoon.

“We have nothing to lose,” Tremlett told London24. “We’ll go out there and enjoy ourselves and try and get some momentum forward to the Championship game.

“If we can take any momentum into the game against Lancashire then that’ll be great.

The dangerman for Sussex will be Tremlett’s England team-mate Matt Prior, who followed up his 10-ball 25 against the south Londoners by blazing 81 off a mere 37 balls.

“You’ve got to give them the respect that they deserve,” the paceman said.

“He’s a good player and has a lot to prove in the one day game and probably has hopes of playing for England in one-day cricket. “We’ll go with our plans and bowl hard. We have a bit of banter.

“Twenty20 is a batsman’s game. If you get someone out, it’s always nice.”

Surrey came up short against Middlesex, losing by one wicket with one ball remaining but, despite the disappointment, Tremlett made the effort to stop and say hello to all the fans that were at the Kia Oval.

“It was a close one,” he added. “We came here tonight to give the crowd a show.

“It was a good game but we were on the wrong side of the result.

“There was a lot of people here tonight [15,090 – the largest attendance of the competition so far] and a lot of kids so it’s nice to see them and give them autographs.

“They’re the next generation so it’s nice to see them.”

Surrey have rested pace bowler Stuart Meaker for the game at Hove, with Chris Jordan coming into the squad.

“I thought we played very well against the Middlesex Panthers on Friday night and we would like to thank our fans and members for the incredible support they have given us throughout the competition.

“We face a Sussex Sharks side that have already qualified for the knock out stages and they will present us with a difficult challenge but it is one that we are really looking forward to”.
