Newham girl Ohuruogu disappointed not to retain title despite late surge

Christine Ohuruogu was just pipped to the gold medal in her defence of the Olympic title tonight.

Ohuruogu was in the pack coming into the home straight but produced one of her sublime finishes we have all come accustomed to.

And though she was able to get into the medals she was unable to get ahead of her rival from America, Sanya Richards-Ross, in a reverse of the final four years ago.

The 28-year-old, dubbed the Stratford Express, finished in a time of 49.70 seconds, which was a season’s best for the girl who was brought up less than a mile from the Olympic Stadium.

And Ohuruogu was disappointed not to fulfil her main aim of retaining the title she won in Beijing in 2008.

“I had came here with one thing in my mind and one thing only, to continue my reign as Olympic champion and I am disappointed not to,” she said.
