Wood Green sports bar The Westbury is to be spruced up by its new owners in a £400,000 overhaul.
Punch Taverns and London Village Inns, which also owns The Wrestlers pub in Highgate and the Jolly Butchers in Stoke Newington, say they will create 15 new jobs at the pub when it reopens in October.
The Westbury, on the corner of Westbury Avenue and Lakefield Road, “will be transformed into a quality local pub with a real focus on classic pub food with a twist, high service standards and great atmosphere,” say the new owners.
The pub, situated on the edge of the Noel Park estate and close to Turnpike Lane Tube station, is in an “up and coming” area, said London Village Inns’ managing director Martin Harley.
He added: “We have exciting plans to restore it to its former glory. There won’t be any gimmicks; this is all about stripping the pub back to what makes it a great local. A focus on quality beers, specialising in real ale and cider, combined with a quality pub menu, great service and good conversation.”
An early October opening is slated, with the promise of an open kitchen offerign freshly-prepared food paired with “an impressive range of craft beers” and at least six ales on tap – an offering “designed to appeal to the beer aficionado and regular pub-goers”. Redemption ale, which is brewed only a mile from the pub, will be on the roster.
Work is due to start on site on August 25.
