Teaching staff at Noel Park Primary School, in Gladstone Avenue, voted in favour of industrial action in a ballot carried out by the National Union of Teachers (NUT).

NUT members at the school are said to be unhappy with plans from the Department for Education (DfE) to force staff into becoming employees of the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET).

Julie Davies, Haringey NUT secretary, said: “Our members do not want to work for an academy chain, they want to work for the local authority. They see this as their school being privatised and they are worried about their terms and conditions being affected.

“We believe that Haringey schools are being targeted and branded as failing so that they can be turned into academies.

“Noel Park School was given ‘good with outstanding features’ at the last OFSTED. The school has been improving steadily since then but was failed by OFSTED in November.”

A spokesman for AET said: “We have held consultation meetings with staff and parents about the prospect of becoming an academy and have not received any major objections.”
