Britain will go to the polls today to vote on whether or not to remain in the EU.

After months of campaigning, polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm for people to cast their vote on the divisive issue.

Result of a ComRes poll published at 10pm yesterday gave Remain an eight-point lead over Leave, but the final poll – by Opinium – gave Leave a one-point lead.

Many recent opinion polls have rendered the vote too close to call. After the polls close at 10pm, counting will start.

Turnout figures are expected to be revealed around midnight, with vote counts being released throughout the night.

The overall result is expected to be announced tomorrow morning.

A recent YouGov survey showed Brexit with a slim lead, while the Opinium poll had the Leave side one point on 45 to 44 per cent, with the company saying the vote was too close to call on that basis.

An online YouGov survey on the eve of the election also showed a swing to Remain, on 51 per cent, up two, and Leave on 49 per cent, down two.
