EYE catching headgear provides a taste of things to come at a fundraising bash for next year’s Tottenham Carnival.
Organisers (from left) Councillor Sheila Peacock, Annie Whyte, Bob Fickling, Sally Sturgeon, Nicky Price, Suzanne Johnston and Marva Gabbidon dressed up for the occasion, at the Haringey Irish Centre, in Pretoria Road, Tottenham, on Saturday, November 21.
Reggae star Pete Campbell “brought the house down” with his soulful singing, while Irish dancers and a carnival band delighted the crowds with an elaborate stage show.
More than 140 guests joined the party and helped raise much-needed funds for the annual carnival and parade, set for June 18, 2011. The event costs thousands of pounds to put on, but organisers hope that with the help of local businesses and sponsorship it will be the best yet.
Event organiser Annie Whyte said: “We were absolutely delighted with the night and all the performers were fantastic. We won’t know how much we’ve raised until all the bills are in, but I’m sure we did well - a million thanks to everyone who helped out.”
A Tottenham man was part of an armed mob which stabbed an innocent man to death in a children’s playground at the height of a gang war, a court heard yesterday.
