To mark this summer’s historic Olympic Games in London, the 2012 Crouch End fun run festival will be embracing the Olympic spirit with a special Community Games event.

To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in.

The festivities will kick-off at midday on May 20 with a special opening ceremony in Priory Park, which will host an array of fun activities for all the family throughout the day.

On the Community Games field, there will be attractions such as crazy catch, limbo and high-jump, as well as a 50m sprint track especially laid for the event and supplied by England Athletics.

There will also be a series of community races which will see competitors of all ages challenge for medals in the grannies’ egg and spoon race, dads’ space hopper dash, men’s hoola hoop walk and mum’s tug-of-war.

Jim Shepley, programme director, said: “The event is definitely going to appeal to people’s sense of humour, as well as getting people active!”

Alison Harrow, the YMCA Community Games co-ordinator, said: “The Community Games is bringing the spirit of London 2012 to local communities and all of them will incorporate sporting and cultural activity elements.

“We hope that they will be sustained beyond 2012.”

Community Games will be taking place all over the UK and is a partnership project between the YMCA and the Community Sports Partnership.

Funding for the Community Games in Priory Park later this month comes from a share of the £2million provided nationally by Legacy Trust UK.
