A common looks set to become one of the borough’s most popular parks after new sports facilities were officially opened as part of its £250,000 refurbishment.
Ducketts Common, Turnpike Lane, now boasts an enclosed five-a-side football, netball and volleyball pitch, full-sized basketball courts and practice baskets, and a 14-piece outdoor gym.
The ball court surface was replaced and wheelchair access added.
Mayor of Haringey Cllr David Browne officially raised the curtain on the facilities at Ducketts Common on Friday, after the money was raised by a number of groups – including the council, the Friends of Ducketts Common and Groundwork London.
Cllr Browne said: “The new facilities are superb and really make a difference to Ducketts Common, offering people access to state-of-the art equipment.
“I know that the equipment is already being put to good use by residents and I’m sure that over the summer Ducketts Common will become one of Haringey’s most popular parks.”
Adam Coffman, vice-chairman of the Friends of Ducketts Common, said: “These bright sports facilities are something people take pride in and use and are beyond what we envisaged them to be.”
