STUDENTS have celebrated the opening of a new cutting-edge learning facility that boasts hi-tech equipment, a games area and even a recording studio.

The new Octagon Centre in Commerce Road, Wood Green, formerly known as the Young People’s Centre, has been overhailed as part of Haringey Council’s £214million Building Schools for the Future programme.
It boasts a new food technology space complete with new cookers and work benches, an art and design area, new music technology connected to a small recording studio and design technology areas with modern equipment.
A bright, new hub at the centre of the school provides an ‘internet café’-style space, and a permanent dining area, plus the centre has remodelled its specialist teaching areas.
There is a new IT suite and a rearranged multi-agency area allows for one-to-one discussions between professionals, staff and students, and a new indoor sports area with access to an outdoor games area with changing rooms and shower facilities.
The centre also has a new hall potentially open for community use.
Headteacher Beverley Randall said: “We are very proud of the transformation of our building and pleased that our students already feel our new environment is helping with their learning.”
Councillor Lorna Reith, Haringey’s cabinet member for children and young people, added: “This fantastic building makes a very clear statement about how much we value our young people.
“The combination of first class facilities and high quality support will enable students to have a fresh opportunities to succeed.”
