A newly-opened Turkish restaurant in Harringay has scrapped plans to stay open until 5am on public holidays due to pressure from residents.
Owners of Devran restaurant in Grand Parade, Green Lanes, had originally hoped to open until 2.30am every night and until 5am on nine dates each year, including New Year’s Day and Easter Sunday.
But after opposition from Tottenham MP David Lammy, several objections and a petition signed by 15 residents, the business scaled back its bid, limiting opening hours to 2am and scrapping plans for 5am closures altogether.
Ian Sygrave, chairman of Ladder Community Safety Partnership, welcomed the restaurant’s decision to adhere to an unwritten understanding that businesses in Green Lanes stay open no later than 2am.
He said: “It’s an unofficial agreement for the good of the community and the well-being of Green Lanes because it makes it a safer place.”
Last Thursday, Haringey Council’s licensing committee granted Devran, which opened in December, a licence to trade from 8am to 2am seven days a week, and serve alcohol between midday and 1.30am each day.
The committee told applicant Huseyin Seftali to ensure the extractor fan is maintained to limit noise affecting residents living above the restaurant.
