The Tottenham Fund – set up by Haringey Council to help people affected by the recent disturbances – has had donations flood in, from as little as £5 to £500, and is still taking money for a limited period.

The council said it will “ensure that the generous donations are used appropriately to meet the needs of the community”.

The emergency relief centre has seen more than 200 people since opening last week – with a range of council and community teams helping with everything from rehousing of homeless families to insurance and legal advice for businesses affected by the disturbances.

As well as individual generosity – from as far afield as Plymouth and Leeds – major retailers such as Mothercare, Tesco, ASDA and Waitrose have also made contributions.

Donations can still be made: online using PayPal with a credit card or via some personal bank accounts, at http://bit.ly/pC3Gtu; by cheque, made payable to “Mayor’s Special Fund – Tottenham Fund” and either sent to London Borough of Haringey, PO Box 55235, London, N22 9DF, or by hand to the Community Assistance Centre in Tottenham Green Leisure Centre, Philip Lane, South Tottenham; by direct bank transfer in branch or online, using “Mayor’s Special Fund – Tottenham Fund” as payee and sort code 60-24-23 and account number 90724828.
