Posters proclaiming Mayor of London “Boris isn’t working” have appeared in Haringey as the race for City Hall hots up – but those behind his re-election bid claim residents have been better off under his reign.

The billboards have been put up close to Seven Sisters and Finsbury Park stations as part of a larger push by independent campaign group Sack Boris, which wants to see Mr Johnson ousted in the May elections.

Sack Boris wants to remind voters of Mr Johnson’s refusal to cut short his holiday as last summer’s riots erupted in Tottenham before spreading across the capital and then the country. He returned on the fourth day of the riots.

Sack Boris field manager Matt Hanley said: “It’s obvious that Boris isn’t working and needs to be sacked by the citizens of London on May 3. He stayed on holiday while parts of London were consumed by riots.”

But a spokesman for Mr Johnson’s re-election campaign said he had worked hard for the people of Haringey – citing a fall in crime and noting election promises which include an additional three police officers in each of Haringey’s 19 Safer Neighbourhood Teams, as well as continuing to deliver more jobs and apprenticeships.
