The official London 2012 Twitter page kicked off the tweets this morning, with a message to followers: “Good morning world. It’s 0 days to go! RT if you are ready for #London2012.”

Olympian Denise Lewis, who was part of the London 2012 bid team in Singapore in 2005, wrote: “I kid you not. I have butterflies in my stomach. Struggled to eat breakfast. This is it, the day that unifies all our ambitions as a Nation.”

Paralympian Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson wrote: “Feeling very olympic today...”

Diver Tom Daley, who will compete this summer, wrote: “I can’t believe the @Olympics @London2012 start today!!!! So excited!!”

Weightlifter Zoe Smith was tweeting about her preparations for the Olympics, and wrote: “Good news is that I only have 1.5kg left to lose! This is possibly the best position I’ve been in ahead of a comp. Everything going so well.”

And it wasn’t just members of Team GB tweeting. American swimmer Michael Phelps posted a picture of some good luck signs which had been made for Team USA.
