A sixth former at a Hornsey school has been given special recognition for a stellar achievement in his GCSEs.

Science student Sharif Matovu, who attends Greig City Academy, was honoured at a special award ceremony, receiving a plaque and £100 worth of book tokens for his “remarkable” achievement.

Shairf, 16, of Bounds Green, gained A* GCSEs in all three science subjects and in total racked up 10 A* grades and one A grade.

The student was presented with the plaque and tokens by Greg Mayor, manager of Observatory the Opticians in Muswell Hill, which sponsored the award ceremony.

“We always try to support other local groups and educational facilities wherever possible and we are very proud to have been able to present this award for such a fabulous achievement,” he said. “I would just like to say huge congratulations to Sharif.”

David Hearn, the school’s vice-principal, added: “We are very proud that a student at our school has managed to achieve such remarkable grades. Sharif should be extremely proud of himself.”
