Two teenagers have been arrested after gunfire was heard in Hornsey.

Police were called to Boyton Road, on the Campsbourne Estate, after a number of residents called 999 after hearing gunshots at around 11.30pm last Thursday night.

Officers later arrested two men in their late teens in connection with the incident, both of whom have been bailed to return, pending further enquiries, on a date in August.

It is unclear whether or not the youths are local - previous incidents on the estate and surrounding areas have involved people who are not from Hornsey.

It is believed at this stage that no-one was hurt in the incident.

Officers who attended the scene blocked off the road and spent the night and most of the next day combing the area for evidence.

Campsfield Road resident Lesley Ramm said: “The police were there the next day, through the afternoon, searching for evidence.

“I think they were looking for evidence of blood, but I suspect if there had been any it would have been washed away in the torrential rain.”

She added: “Generally speaking during the hours of daylight, there is no trouble [on Campsbourne Estate] but they tend to come out at night. It is not very reassuring that there are people going around with guns.”

The estate – one of the most deprived in the west of the borough – has a history of crime, including a mass brawl in September 2010 during which a marked police car was damaged.

Last year, police threatened to hand out ASBOs to anti-social youths after reports indicated that drug dealing and drinking had become rife on the estate.

Police also carried out sweeps as part of last year’s crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

Thursday’s incident has now been passed to Trident officers, who investigate gun crime in the capital.

Police ask anyone with any information regarding this incident to contact Trident on 020 8733 4774. Alternatively, to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
