A 20-year-old man has been jailed for two years after he burgled a house, assaulted a pizza delivery driver and stole his moped on the same day.
Christopher Nash, 20, of Gospatrick Road, Tottenham, was arrested after the pizza delivery driver was surrounded and forced off his moped while making a delivery in Enfield on December 31 last year, Wood Green Crown Court heard.
Nash pushed the 26-year-old off the bike while with a group of youths, and rode off on it at about 7.40pm. When he stopped nearby the victim approached him and asked for his bike back, but Nash became abusive, punched him in the face and continued to assault him while chasing him around the road.
Police caught him on foot a short while later, arresting him for robbery. While searching him they found the moped key as well as a women’s silver watch, bracelet, perfume and other jewellery stolen during a burglary an hour earlier.
He claimed he had found the jewellery, but his DNA was found in a blood sample on the fridge inside the home in Avondale Avenue, Barnet.
Nash pleaded guilty to burglary, robbery and assault by beating at Wood Green Crown Court, and on Thursday, May 26, was sentenced to two years in a young offenders’ institute
Detective Constable Alan Horsfall, of Barnet CID, said: “Thankfully it is rare that a person commits so many offences in such a short space of time. Prompt action by witnesses and responding officers brought Nash to justice. Like so many criminals he obtained no benefit from these crimes and will now have to face the consequences of his criminality.”
