A Hornsey man charged with stealing from a Tottenham jewellers after it was destroyed by fire in last year’s riots is set to stand trial.

Demetri Yhap, 26, of Minster Walk, Lightfoot Road, was committed for trial at Wood Green Crown Court after appearing at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court last Monday.

He has been charged with burglary of Paradise Gems jewellers, in High Road, on August 6, as well as violent disorder in High Road during the riots.

Yhap also faces charges of possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and cannabis, after a quantity of cash and drugs were allegedly seized by officers at his home.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Wood Green Crown Court on June 11.

Three men have previously been arrested in connection with the burglary at Paradise Gems in which a safe was stolen following a fire.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on April 26 and bailed to return to a north London police station on July 28, while a 35-year-old man was arrested on April 19 and bailed to return on July 30.

On April 5, a 27-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the theft and bailed to return to a north London police station on June 10.
