Haringey ‘supercop’ Nick Lloyd has been recognised twice in the Metropolitan Police’s annual awards.

PC Lloyd was named both Police Officer of the Year and Best Thief Taker at the Total Excellence in Policing Awards, after making 155 arrests in the last year.

PC Lloyd has served in the Met for more than 25 years, and worked in Haringey since 2000, and as well as his impressive arrest record, the so-called ‘supercop’ was singled out for the support and encouragement he has offered to new and transferring officers.

He was the only police officer to walk away from the ceremony with more than one award.

PC Lloyd said his success is down to a real love of the job.

He said: “I try to arrest somebody every shift. It’s such an important part of the job. I get a bit down-hearted if I don’t.

“Haringey is a busy borough, so I manage to get those results.

“Criminals ruin lives, they really do - I don’t like them. It’s a fundamental part of the job to arrest people who break the law.

“I think it gives people a lot of confidence in the police - the bottom line is, that’s still the biggest confidence builder.

“If your house is burgled, or you’re robbed or assaulted, you hope somebody will be arrested for it.”

PC Lloyd was due to retire last year, but he isn’t ready to hang up his handcuffs just yet.

He said: “I love my job. I’ll keep it going as long as my wife allows me!”

PC Lloyd said he was thrilled to win the award, after narrowly missing out last year., when he was nominated for making 115 arrests.

He said: “I’m really proud, I was nominated last year and fell at the final hurdle, which gutted me.

“It’s nice to have your work recognised. At my time in my career it’s the icing on the cake.

“This certainly wasn’t a solo effort though, everyone give me a bit of leeway to go out and arrest as many people as I can.”

Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said: “Remarkable acts of professionalism and selfless acts of bravery are often carried out in the Metropolitan Police Service, but rarely remarked upon.

“My officers and staff joined the Met to serve and protect Londoners and make our City safer for everyone. I am proud to lead an organisation where amazing work is normal.”
