Ten men were jailed for their part in the riots last summer.

A gang armed with bottles, rocks and sticks who instigated shocking scenes of violence and disorder and caused thousands of pounds of damage in Wood Green last August have been jailed for a total of more than 18 years.

The 10-strong group were intent on attacking people and property when they met up in the High Road under The Mall Wood Green on August 6 last year, just a matter of hours after violence broke out in Tottenham following the peaceful protest over the police shooting of Mark Duggan.

CCTV shows the gang were the first on the scene, armed with bottles, rocks and sticks.

Their rampage began with an attack on a police car which was on its way to Tottenham. They then targeted shops in the area, smashing windows, causing thousands of pounds of damage and setting fire to two parked cars.

Staff and customers at the Quicksilver Gaming Arcade were subjected to a terrifying ordeal when they were trapped inside while the mob – some of whom were just 15 at the time – smashed their way in. Employees were robbed and games machines were damaged.

The gang attacked a passing vehicle and pushed a cyclist off his bike before assaulting him. They then barricaded the High Road using material taken from local roadworks and targeted drivers, leaving one woman with a serious facial injury.

The group all pleaded guilty to various offences and were sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court last Wednesday.

Among them were Dean Richards, 23, of Morley Avenue, Wood Green, who was sentenced to two-and-a-half years for robbery, burglary, handling stolen goods and violent disorder, while Carl Richards, 18, also of Morley Avenue, was given 18 months at a young offenders’ institute for burglary.

Rickelle Christian, 23, of Inca Terrace, Tottenham, was given five months at a young offenders’ institute for handling stolen goods.

A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were both sentenced to a year in a young offenders’ institute.

Dkwan MiJulian Kasai, of Effingham Road, Harringay, was given three years and six months while Nicky Pell, 28, of Hornsey Park Road, Wood Green, was jailed for two years and six months – both for robbery, aggravated burglary and violent disorder. Two 18-year-olds from Essex and Birmingham were also jailed.

Detective Inspector Peter Welsh promised to leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpertatros of public disorder last summer to justice. He said: “I believe as a result of all persons being given custodial sentences this will hopefully reduce the threat of gang activity and gang violence in Haringey and surrounding boroughs. Anti social behaviour will be reduced, which conveys a strong message to the other gang members, that the Metropolitan Police Service is committed to reducing gang activity and offending.”
