A man was stabbed at a Crouch End nightclub following an argument over a spilled drink.

Police were called to BG Max nightclub, in Tottenham Lane, at 2am on Sunday after the dispute in the club led to a stabbing outside.

A 22-year-old man was found suffering from a stab wound and a 25-year-old man was also found with injuries.

The younger victim was taken to a north London hospital where his condition was initially described as life threatening. Both men were discharged from hospital later on Sunday.

Emil Rusanov, 35, owner of BG Max, told the Journal: “Some people were fighting and one was cut with a broken bottle.”

One of the club’s neighbours, who did not wish to be named, said: “There are a lot of incidents that take place every weekend – screaming, shouting and fighting. I just see all the things that go on every weekend – bottles being thrown and fighting.”

On Tuesday, officers from Haringey Police’s licensing unit visited the club to speak to the licence holder and review security procedures.

Mr Rusanov, of Tottenham Lane, who describes himself as a “leader of the Bulgarian community,” added: “Everything is under investigation – there are two witnesses who are going to the police.”

A police spokeswoman said officers were keeping an “open mind” about the weapon used in the attack and it is “not believed to have stemmed from community tension” between the Turkish and Bulgarian communities.

She added: “It is believed that an argument erupted over a spilled drink. Some of those involved left the club and some were ejected.

“Once outside the club it is believed that the argument escalated leading to a fight during which the victims received their injuries.”

Two men, aged 18 and 23, were arrested in connection with the incident and have been bailed to return to a north London police station in late July.
