The driver was behind the wheel of a route 123 bus in Station Road at about 7pm on February 6 when he was assaulted by a man with a Staffordshire Bull Terrier-type dog.

The man boarded with the dog but did not properly show his travelcard to the driver before walking to the back of the bus. The driver asked him back to show his pass, but when he did so he racially abused the driver before getting off and walking around to the drivers window and assaulting him.

The suspect then made off towards Ferry Lane. He is described as a white man with dark hair, wearing a dark puffa jacket and jeans.

The driver suffered minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

Officers from the joint Metropolitan Police Service and Transport for London Safer Transport Command Workplace Violence Unit are appealing for anyone with information on the assault to contact DC Andy Barnard on 020 3054 5406, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
