Bailiffs – with help from the police – were trying to evict the man from his Somerset Close home when he allegedly poured petrol around the flat and threatened to set fire to it at about midday today.

Police declared the situation to be a siege, evacuating 20 properties in the immediate area and calling the fire service.

About 25 firefighters are on the scene while the police try to negotiate with the man.
