Climate lobby of parliament with Catherine West

Climate campaigners from Hornsey and Wood Green descended on Westminster to meet with new MP, Catherine West as part of a mass lobby of parliament.

Around one hundred campaigners, including a group of students from Woodside High School, joined the lobby, organised by the Climate Coalition, who estimate that 10,000 people from across the country attended.

The Haringey contingent lobbied Catherine West on local, national and international climate issues. Andy Hows of Transition Crouch End said: “We told Catherine about our petition urging Haringey Council to end its investments in coal and tar sands. We also set out our national priorities; a step increase in energy efficiency programmes, and a commitment to a major uplift in renewable energy.”

Brian Simpson from Muswell Hill Sustainability Group added: “We were pleased that Catherine West spent 40 minutes discussing our concerns and stated her own commitment to press for action on environmental issues, especially climate change. With the Paris Climate talks coming up at the end of the year, it’s so important that our politicians listen and take action.”
