Catherine West passed up the chance to attend a glittering cocktail party in the gardens of Westminster Abbey to attend her first official engagement as the new MP for Hornsey and Wood Green on Tuesday night.

Ms West attended a Highgate Neighbourhood Forum meeting, which took place in Lauderdale House.

She said: “I felt it was important to do community things, and it was a really good meeting.

“We were talking about how we can use green spaces for the community, and I’m looking forward to supporting Lauderdale House. It’s a lovely building, but there’s work to do to improve it and maintain it.”
