Brave tot gets new running legs
A DISABLED toddler has taken a giant leap forward in his bid for a normal life - after being fitted with new prosthetic running legs.
Three-year-old Harvey Parry, of Northern Avenue, Edmonton, who lost his legs to meningitis, is the youngest person in the world to own the limbs normally used by Paralympians, including 400-metre runner Oscar Pistorius.
The family raised £16,500 in just four weeks to fund the trip to New York to buy the prosthetics by fundraising in Edmonton, Wood Green and Camden Town.
Harvey's mum Carol said: "It has changed his life so much, he can now skip along and run.
"I still watch him and cry because he can now keep up with the children and move on different terrains. That's what these legs have done for him."
The family returned last week after months of intense training to get used to the new legs and are back on the streets to raise cash for follow-up treatment.
They have already raised £1,048 in Wood Green on Saturday, and Harvey has even signed up to his first one-mile fun run to help raise even more.
The event at Lea Valley Athletics Centre in Picketts Lock on Sunday, September 20, has been organised by the Edmonton Rotary Club.
