Workers' cabins 'ruining' the grass

A RESIDENT of a block of council flats claims workers set up a site office on land they pay to maintain without even asking permission.

Jeff Somerfield, of Ramsey Court, off Park Road, Hornsey, says residents were not even asked before contractors for Haringey Council put their portable cabins on the green outside his flat.

They are being used by building firm Mulalley as site offices for work on various council properties in Hornsey, scheduled to last 10 weeks.

Mr Somerfield, a chartered accountant, said: "They are taking up land that we pay to maintain through our annual maintenance bill. It was a nice piece of green outside my bedroom window before. Why can't they use the depot site on Hornsey High Street?

"I have written a letter to them and also expressed my concerns about security, as people have been burgled by people claiming to be from the council and so on.

"The scaffolding has been up since September 29 but no work has been done as yet."

A Homes for Haringey spokesman said: "There are very limited possibilities for the location of the site accommodation and the decision was made by the project team and the residents were informed were it would be located. Any damage the grassed area will be made good by the contractor.
