More big names set to rock Pally

THE future of Alexandra Palace as a serious contender for big-name rock concerts seemed more assured this week after the provisional line-ups for the winter were revealed.

Predictions that the Palace would lose out on gigs by acts like Paul Weller once Wembley Arena reopened in April seem to have been proved wrong.

Among the concerts provisionally booked are The Flaming Lips, veterans of the American alternative music scene. They are due to play on October 24.

Chart-topping rock band The Killers also have a show pencilled in for November 21, while Finnish goth rockers HIM have provisionally booked the West Hall for December 14.

This is in addition to indie-rock heavyweights Keane, who have already announced two shows at the Palace (October 25 and 26).

Other big events include the return of the UK Hall Of Fame ceremony on November 15.

A concert for PeaceJam, which promotes peace using Nobel Peace Prize winners and poet laureates, is also pencilled in for September 14.
