ENFIELD & Haringey sprinter Leon Baptiste secured one of the finest wins of his career on Saturday at the international UK Indoor match in Glasgow.

The 24-year-old (pictured) dramatically beat former Olympic champion Shawn Crawford in the 200m at the Kelvin Hall in the first major indoor meeting of the season, to lay down a marker for the rest of the year.

His time of 21.34 seconds takes the Edmonton-born star to the top of the UK rankings, and he will now have high hopes of being selected for the GB teams for both the European Championships and Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, John Pepper produced an outstanding display for Enfield & Haringey AC at the South of England Cross-Country Championships on Saturday.

Pepper finished second in the senior men's 15km race, his first major medal as a senior and the highest club placing at the senior championship for decades. He was one of a group of four runners who broke away from the main field on the first lap.

On the second of the three five-kilometre laps Neilson Hall and Pepper eased away from the trailing pair, and by the time the leaders came in sight on the final slope to the finish the 21-year-old strode home to take the runners-up spot.

In the Under-20 age group, Ben Nagy finished 16th in the men's race, and Anna Sharrock was 18th in the women's competition.

The excellent performances continued at the Lee Valley Athletic Centre for the London Games, with EHAC again performing well.

Leading UK sprinter Jordan Higgins won the men's Under-20 60m in 6.77 seconds, while Reece Noonan was fourth with an excellent 6.97.
